Tales from of a product line
Once upon a time, I embarked on an endless search to capture, enhance, and exhibit stunning product photography to launch a new home decor collection. Faced with several challenges, including delayed shipping with merchandise and exorbitant studio costs, I had to find another way—hello 3D product visualization.
LIGHTING & COLOR
In 3D modeling and staging, the lighting and color are crucial. Just like defining mood boards and shot lists, I chose lighting and color compositions that matched the existing branding. These compositions not only offered a visually appealing atmosphere but also helped in storytelling within the virtual environment.
SOURCING
Using pre-existing models and textures saved me a significant amount of time while constructing the environments. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were many low-cost or even free models available, which only required customization. Just like in traditional photography, backdrops and textures play a crucial role in 3D.
While the launch date for the Dear Homey product line is a moving target, we now have an exquisite collection of 3D product shots that can be conveniently updated as our brand matures. Creating custom 3D environments has provided us with cost savings and creative flexibility. It is important to note that although 3D product visualization is an excellent tool, it does not completely replace traditional product photography.
