QUEEN IDIA ILLUSTRATION SERIES

One day, I stumbled upon the story of Queen Idia, the legendary Queen Mother of Benin. Her story inspired me to create something that commemorates her history. It also reminded me of the importance of preserving history through new media and creative expression. By using new art forms, we can make history more accessible and engaging to modern audiences, including younger generations who may be less inclined to visit museums or read history books. Additionally, creative explorations like this one can help us highlight lesser-known aspects of history, challenge our preconceived notions, and promote a more inclusive and diverse understanding of our past.

After dedicating considerable time to researching historical artifacts and gathering inspiration, I sketched roughs and developed character details that celebrated the rich history and culture. Once complete, I turned to Adobe Illustrator to bring the vision to life. These initial character sets will be featured in an upcoming project.
