AN AFROFUTURSIC BLACK HISTORY MONTH
THE INTENT: CREATE THE 2021 CAPITAL ONE BLACK HISTORY MONTH CAMPAIGN AND ACTIVATION | ROLE: SR. ART DIRECTOR
Imagine working with experts in industrial, product, physical experience, and brand design to create a one-of-a-kind campaign that celebrates Black History Month. Well, that’s exactly what we did at Capital One. Together, we crafted an awe-inspiring activation called “FORWARD” that paid tribute to the past, honored the present, and provided optimism for the future.
BHM Campaign + Activation
From the beginning, we received a well-defined vision from our VP/Creative Director, Tina "TJ" Johnson Marcel, to reimagine how we approach and execute the Black History Month 2021 campaign. With that vision and the theme "FORWARD" in mind, I embarked on a creative journey to develop a design system inspired by Afrofuturism, Black History, and West African textiles. We aimed to create something unique while staying true to our brand's identity. Executing this imaginative campaign while adhering to brand guidelines was a significant feat. Still, the outcome impacted numerous Capital One Café locations, including those in New Orleans, Chicago, New York, and DC.
